Garry Butler is well known around Byford and surrounding areas as a hardworking breaker and educator. But like many, he also trains a few nice horses whenever there is a spare moment and opportunity.
His best horse race wise was Touch Of Pearl a winner of a huge 29 races with 21 places from only 73 lifetime starts. Touch Of Pearl won at Moonee Valley taking the Melbourne Winter Championship Final and then Garry brought him to WA for a “holiday” in Dec 2005 and won a heat and the final of the 2005 Christmas Gift along the way. The horse went back east with Garry winning more races before settling back in WA.
Another horse Garry had great admiration for was Bobby Hank who won 26 races and 41 places in the years from 2003 to 2011. Bobby Hank won just over $206,000 for Garry and connections.
More recently, on 2017 Interdominion Final night, Garry won the $50,000 Binshaw Classic with Aussie Delight taking his record to 12 wins and $114,000
