Aldo Cortopassi is another one of Western Australia’s “younger” brigade of trainers who seems to have been training for a lot of years- which is true because he did start early! He has tended to focus on younger horses and has enjoyed very good success with them. Aldo also drives most of the horses he trains and has just (August 2016) achieved his 1000th winner as a driver.
Possibly one of the most talented horses Aldo drove was MEGGIE DEAR a Northern Lights mare who won 24 races in all, with many at Gloucester Park. Meggie Dear was third to Baltic Eagle in the WA Pacing Cup of 2003 with Aldo driving, and then went on to win her next two starts which also included the 2003 WASBA Breeders Stakes.
As a part owner, trainer and driver, Aldo’s highlights will always include a horse called TOTAL DEFIANCE with 23 wins and in excess of $231,000 in stakemoney. He won the 3yr old Battle of Bunbury the 2008 Gold Kalgoorlie-Boulder Pacing Cup – an iconic standing start feature in Western Australia. The 2009 Easter Cup was the next big feature win before several more Gloucester Park wins and places, then finishing his career in USA.
As a 2 yr old COOL SASSI did so well winning her first race start being a Heat of the 2 Yr Old Fillies Sales Classic in April and picking up Westbred bonus money as well.
Pacing WA is very happy to have such a professional young trainer as part of our team.
